Organizing Communities, Building Camellia Gardens

Abstract

Nestled among the towering oaks and soaring hardwoods along Old Bainbridge Road is a Tallahassee treasure.  Camellia Gardens is a fifty-eight unit condominium community providing care-free living with perfectly manicured lawns, maintenance-free units, and neighborhood safety programs tailored to those with active lifestyles.  Camellia Gardens Condominiums Association, Inc. represents the owners of the corporation and their interests within the community .

The Challenge

In 2004, after the developer completed construction, the association was turned over to the owners for management of the property.  With no neighborhood structure in place, this newly developed community required immediate organization to enable residents with the lifestyle envisioned.

The Solution

Recognizing the importance of building strong communities and neighborhood relations, the membership of Camellia Gardens Condominiums Association, Inc. unanimously elected Michael Turner to the Office of the President.  Since 2004, Mr. Turner has retained the title of President and Chief Executive Officer.   Early in this capacity, he lead the corporation in the original design of the organization by outlining specific strategic imperatives.  These included committees focused on strategic planning, financial stability, community beautification, and neighborhood safety.  As a result of this work, Camellia Gardens was named “Tallahassee’s Neighborhood of the Year” by the City of Tallahassee and the Council of Neighborhood Associations.
